Jean Patrick
Original Concept, responsible for all aspects.

"Jean Patrick" is a project that I had the pleasure of taking from my personal 2D concept all the way to a finished 3D piece. It is a story about Jean Patrick a cheesemonger who is cherished by the community, but mischievous kids can't resist snatching bits of his cheese when he isn't paying attention!
Character turn table
One of the most exciting parts of this piece was character modeling, I wanted to make sure the characters were done in a way that was fully production-ready. I played around with several iterations and different topologies as well as many Hair variations with Xgen in search of the result that would benefit the story.

Props
I modeled the props in Maya first, making sure it has proper topology and UVs. I took some of the props that needed more details in Zbrush where I added detail to later be able to bake them down in Substance painter.

The Concept Art
I started the process by drawing the main character in my sketchbook and finding him amusing so I built a story around him. Below you can see some of the iterations done before finalizing the character you can see the first idea on the left side. At first, I drew him standing in the middle of his booth and I thought it was too stiff and not enough storytelling so I did several quick sketches and added story to them, maybe he is eating his cheese? maybe he ate it and is singing/saying something? what if there are flies around the cheese? what if there is a kid trying to steal his chees? and then I decided that there was a kid trying to steal his cheese while he wasn't paying attention and a rat that was there first was hissing at the kid to backoff of his cheese because he was there first!
